Register a .ng Domain + Connect to Hosted App — Complete Guide
A .ng domain signals to Nigerian users, search engines, and clients that your business is local — it builds credibility, improves local SEO, and removes the "is this a real Nigerian company?" doubt. And unlike .com domains that require a foreign card to register, .ng domains on OneBit are paid entirely in naira via Paystack.
This guide covers both steps end-to-end: register your .ng domain, then connect it to your OneBit-deployed app.
Why a .ng domain?
- Local credibility — Nigerian customers trust a
.com.ngor.ngdomain over a generic.comfor local services - Local SEO signal — Google and Bing use ccTLD (country-code TLD) as a ranking signal for local searches
- No foreign card —
.ngregistration on OneBit runs through Paystack; any Nigerian debit card works - One dashboard — domain registration and app hosting share the same OneBit login; no juggling two platforms
Part 1 — Register your .ng domain
Step 1: Search for your domain
Go to domain.onebit.ng and type your preferred name in the search bar.
OneBit supports:
.ng— the top-level Nigerian domain.com.ng— most common for Nigerian businesses.org.ng— for organisations.edu.ng— educational institutions (requires verification)
Step 2: Add to cart and checkout
Select the domain you want and proceed to checkout. The payment page uses Paystack — enter your Nigerian debit card details and complete the payment. The checkout is in naira; the price shown is what you pay, no FX conversion.
Status during registration: After payment, your domain enters a PROVISIONING state while the registry processes it. This typically completes within 5–15 minutes. You'll see the domain appear as ACTIVE in your dashboard when it's ready.
Step 3: Confirm registration
Once active, your domain appears under My Domains at domain.onebit.ng. At this point the domain is yours — it has no DNS records yet, so visiting it in a browser won't resolve to anything. The next step wires it to your app.
Part 2 — Connect your .ng domain to a hosted app
Prerequisite: You need a live app already deployed on OneBit. If you haven't deployed yet, follow the Node.js deploy guide first — it takes about 10 minutes.
Step 1: Open your app in the Deploy console
Log in at deploy.onebit.ng, open your app on Apps, and go to its Domains tab.
Step 2: Add your custom domain
Under Add domain, enter your .ng domain (e.g. myapp.com.ng) and press Add. OneBit validates the format and shows you the DNS records you need to set.
A .ng name you registered with OneBit can skip the records: in the console, open Domains, open the name and press Set target, then pick your app. OneBit sets up the address and SSL for you, and you can go straight to Step 4.
Step 3: Update DNS records at domain.onebit.ng
- Go to domain.onebit.ng → My Domains → click your domain → DNS Management (or, in the console: Domains → your domain → For developers → DNS records → Add a record).
- Add the records OneBit shows you in Step 2. Typically:
- An A record pointing your apex domain (
@) to OneBit's IP - A CNAME record pointing
wwwto your OneBit app subdomain
- An A record pointing your apex domain (
Example:
Type Name Value
A @ xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (OneBit will give you the exact IP)
CNAME www yourapp.onebit.ng- Save the DNS records.
Step 4: Wait for DNS propagation
DNS changes propagate globally in 5–60 minutes (sometimes up to 48 hours for the .ng registry, though usually under 30 minutes). The app's Domains tab shows Waiting for the name to point here until propagation is detected; for a name registered with OneBit, its page in Domains shows each step under Is it working yet?.
Tip: Use dnschecker.org to check propagation progress from multiple regions in real time.
Step 5: SSL certificate (automatic)
Once OneBit detects that your DNS is pointing to its servers, it automatically provisions a free SSL certificate via Let's Encrypt. You'll see the domain status switch from Waiting for the name to point here to Secure · working.
Your .ng domain is now live with HTTPS. Visitors who go to https://myapp.com.ng land on your OneBit-hosted app.
Troubleshooting
Domain still showing Waiting for the name to point here after 1 hour
- Double-check the DNS records — a typo in the A record value is the most common cause
- Make sure you saved the DNS records (some DNS panels require a final "Save" click)
- Try flushing your local DNS cache:
ipconfig /flushdns(Windows) orsudo dscacheutil -flushcache(Mac)
SSL not provisioning
- SSL provisioning only starts after DNS resolves. For a name registered with OneBit, Is it working yet? on its page in Domains shows whether the internet has caught up yet (DNS propagation checks it for you).
- Make sure there's no conflicting CAA record on your domain blocking Let's Encrypt
Domain registered but not showing in the Deploy console
- Both products share a login — make sure you're logged in to the same OneBit account at both domain.onebit.ng and deploy.onebit.ng. Names registered with OneBit are listed under Domains → Your names in the console
The OneBit advantage: one naira login, two products
Most developers who register .ng domains do it through one registrar, then host their app somewhere else, then wire DNS manually with two logins and two billing cycles in two currencies. With OneBit:
- One Paystack checkout for domain + hosting
- One dashboard for DNS management and deploy logs
- One currency — all naira, no foreign card
No other Nigerian-focused platform offers register + deploy in a single naira login.
