Best Railway/Render/Fly.io Alternative for Nigerian Developers (Naira Billing)

Railway, Render, and Fly.io are excellent platforms — if you're paid in dollars. For Nigerian developers and startups, every billing cycle comes with a silent tax: the naira-to-dollar exchange rate. When ₦1,500 bought one dollar two years ago and it costs ₦1,700 today, your "fixed" $5/mo plan got more expensive without any notice.

OneBit Deploy was built to remove that tax entirely. This guide compares OneBit against the major platforms on the metrics that matter for Nigerian teams.

The FX problem in plain language

Railway, Render, Fly.io, Heroku, and Kuberns all bill in USD. For a Nigerian developer:

  • Your Paystack/Flutterwave card may not work at all (foreign card required on some)
  • Your bank charges an international transaction fee (typically 1–3%)
  • The exchange rate at charge time is never the rate you budgeted on
  • A "free tier upgrade" that costs $5/mo could cost ₦8,500 today and ₦10,000 next year — same plan, no announcement

OneBit charges in naira. The ₦30,000/mo Hobby plan costs exactly ₦30,000/mo — no conversion, no bank fee, no surprise.

Honest notes: OneBit is single-region today. It does not offer managed backups — plan your own backup strategy. Rolling back is one step: Roll back on the app's Deployments tab. Managed Postgres connectivity is available on paid plans but is not yet covered by automated synthetic checks, so treat it as in preview. If global multi-region is a hard requirement, Railway or Fly.io are the better fit today.

Where OneBit wins for Nigerian teams

1. No foreign card, no FX risk

OneBit's checkout runs on Paystack. Any Nigerian debit card works. No Visa dollar card required, no international fee, no bank rejection on the first of the month.

2. Transparent naira pricing

  • Free — ₦0/mo. Get a live URL, no card at all.
  • Hobby — ₦30,000/mo. Equivalent to roughly $20 at current rates, but your bill never changes when the rate moves.
  • Enterprise — ₦89,000/mo. Dedicated resources.

Compare that to Railway's Hobby plan at $10/mo: on a bad FX day that's ₦17,000+, plus the bank fee, plus the risk it keeps climbing.

3. .ng domain + hosting in one naira login

No other platform lets you register a .ng domain and point it to a deployed app from the same console, in naira. domain.onebit.ng and deploy.onebit.ng share a login — same Paystack checkout, same console.

4. Same push-to-deploy experience

OneBit works the same way as Railway or Render: connect GitHub repo → set env vars → push to main → app is live. There's no new CLI to learn, no Docker required for standard Node/Next.js apps.

Where Railway/Render/Fly.io still win

  • Global multi-region — If your users are in Europe, US, or Asia, Railway/Render/Fly.io have PoPs there. OneBit runs in a single region today.
  • Ecosystem depth — Railway and Render have more third-party integrations, richer add-on marketplaces, and longer track records.
  • Managed backups — Railway and Render offer automated DB backups out of the box. OneBit does not yet.

If you're building for a primarily Nigerian audience, OneBit's naira billing and local infra outweigh these gaps. If you need global PoPs on day one, plan to outgrow OneBit's single region.

How to switch from Railway/Render to OneBit

  1. Export your environment variables from your current platform.
  2. Push your repo to GitHub (it likely already is).
  3. Register at deploy.onebit.ng — free, no card.
  4. Press Add app, connect your repo (GitHub account), then paste your env vars on the app's Environment tab (Bulk add (.env)).
  5. Push to main. Your app is live on OneBit in ~90 seconds.

Your Railway/Render app can stay running during the switch — there's no downtime window unless you update DNS.

Bottom line

If you're a Nigerian developer or startup tired of dollar billing, FX surprises, and rejected cards: OneBit Deploy is the production-ready alternative that bills you in naira.
